Now if it was an ISP (last mile) like say Comcast or a Tier 1 peer which decided to null route various hate group websites I would be up in arms about that. They got into it primarily to make setup of other services easier since they wouldn't need to walk a customer through using a different registrar tools. Domain registration isn't even google's core business. In fact ars did an article on that today. Google isn't a monopoly there are other search engines. The town center has moved to the internet and Google controls who is heard. The only one that really had a means of stopping that was the government. When the constitution was written, you could stand on a soapbox in the town center and get your opinion out. Not only do they have the ability to effectively censor content, they can assure that the opposite point of view gets prominent position in searches. Google current has the ability to censor speech on a global scale. An private entity choosing to not do business with a hate website has less potential for a chilling effect on speech then the government outright banning that speech. There is only one government in a nation but there are millions of individuals. It also illustrates why the Constitution puts more significant restrictions on the government than private individuals when it comes to speech. That is the freedom of association being exercised by both entities. To be clear I see nothing wrong with Tor associating with this site nor do I see anything wrong with Google not wanting to be associated with this site.
